About Us
Welcome to Twyford Tuition!
Dear Parent,
Welcome!
I wanted to share with you the story of how Twyford Tuition was born.
As a parent of a summer baby, I was always worried my daughter would be left behind. I read books on how September babies had an advantage that could last a lifetime. Indeed when my daughter began school , I felt she was tiny – both physically and mentally compared to her peers! However I was determined that my daughter’s date of birth would not be a hinderance! So I designed a programme for us to work through together, which was the birth of Twyford Tuition. By key stage 2, she was assessed to be academically 2 years above her age. While the rest of her class were learning their 2x tables my daughter had mastered her times tables up to 12.
Many parents start tutoring their children at year 4 or year 5 for the 11+. This can be an overwhelming and stressful experience for a child. The only reason they are studying is to pass a test! There is no love or enjoyment in the subjects themselves.
At Twyford Tuition our courses start from year 2 all the way up to year 11. But what they all have in common is our belief that children learn at their best when they are interested in a subject, feel safe to ask any question, and above all, are enjoying themselves.
In summary, learning must be enjoyable- which was the main goal, while designing our workshops. For our comprehension classes, we focus on a reading book to do vocabulary exercises. This is a great way to get children engaged and also interested in reading. They find it fun and hence are motivated to read and do the exercises based on the book. All our group comprehension workshops also include group reading sessions, to encourage confidence and self-esteem.

Have a look through our testimonials, our videos, our workshops – and let us work with you, to help improve your child’s skills in Maths, English & Science.
We look forward to welcoming you at Twyford Tuition!

Brief overview of our courses
From verbs to adjectives and beyond, a strong vocabulary facilitates precise writing and helps the student with their writing. As children expand their vocabulary, they will be better able to describe certain situations, emotions and ideas, which will develop their writing to a much greater level. The most valuable vocabulary is that which you can retrieve and use at any point, for example in an exam. Learning vocabulary is extremely important– however, just as important – use them correctly.
Building vocabulary is easiest when you encounter words in context. Seeing how words appear in a novel can be far more helpful than seeing them in vocabulary lists. Not only will you be confronted with unfamiliar words, but you will also see how they are used. Instead of a vocabulary list, reading is so much more engaging and fun for kids and a great way to learn vocabulary. Which is why we have a 20 week course at Twyford Tuition dedicated to Comprehension, Reading and Vocabulary.
The importance of developing good maths practices in primary school, can’t be stressed enough. Our tutors will guide your child through maths problems and will encourage them to solve problems for themelves by teaching them the concept. Students will learn there is more than one way to solve a problem. Our tutors offer lots of maths practice by working through lots of questions with your child, in our Twyford Tuition Maths workbooks.
